Throughout history, human kind has been moved forward by the exceptional few, while dragging the masses along with them.  The modern democratic process has enabled the masses to hold back the exceptional few through the power of the majority.  The result is an erosion of progress, and possibly a regression, as the decision making and overall course of society is dictated by the misguided ideal that the opinion of the masses is the wisest judgement possible.  Nature doesn’t function that way, business doesn’t function that way, education doesn’t function that way and societies are demonstrating that they cannot function that way.  Society and the representative democracy must find a way to; again, elevate the exceptional few to the decision making positions despite the tendency otherwise.
